Persol – Sonnenbrillen mit Kultcharakter bei Ihrem Optiker in Kufstein
Turin 1917.

Persol – sunglasses with cult character
Turin 1917. In his small optician shop Berry the owner and photographer Guiseppe Ratti works on the development of sunglasses for sports- and airline pilots. He is determined to create glasses on the highest level, which should combine protection, comfort and perfect safety. Within short, his glasses are used worldwide by the military, both by the Italian Military Aviation and also by the American Air Force. The trademark Persol is born. First specialized solely on sunglasses, the name Persol stands for “per il sole”, explaining in short the sense of the glasses – “for the sun”.
1957 Persol created a masterpiece with the model 649. With the movie “Divorce, Italian Style” with Marcello Mastroianni who is wearing these sun glasses in the movie, the large-sized sun glasses, originally developed to protect the Turin tram driver against dust and draft, started their up to now unstopped triumphal march through all continents. It becomes a legend, often copied and it is today still as popular with actors and international VIPs as it had once been.
During the 1940s the silver arrow, the unique symbol of Persol, inspired by the swords of the antique warriors came into being. The arrow combines the temples with the upper front part of the frame. In the following years Persol invested its entire attention on the technical progress and the product care. For doing this, they participated in numerous expeditions to extreme regions, from the dessert to the highest top of the world, in order to experiment, to test and to further develop their lenses and new materials. In that time as an absolute novelty, e.g., the first glasses with flexible temples was developed.
Today Persol is part of the Luxottica group, but is still manufactured in Turin with the same care and passion as it has ever been done. Sun glasses of Persol are a timeless jewelry in highest quality.
