Optyl
Optyl is an innovative synthetic material for glasses, which is on the market since 1968. Due to the fact that this thermosetting plastic material has a low density, it is possible to manufacture ultra-light glasses, which provide a soft and hardly noticeable wearing comfort. Optyl is much harder and scratch-resistant than the synthetic Acetate and stays in a stable shape under heat influence.
High-class glasses are made of Optyl mostly due to its most outstanding feature, the so-called memory effect. When Optyl is heated to 80° to 120° it can be adjusted perfectly to the anatomy of the face, and remains in this shape also when cooled down. With a new heating to the memory temperature, Optyl gets its original shape again, what means that spectacles rims made of Optyl can be kept in any shape. Furthermore, with Optyl a perfect fine finishing of the surface is possible and it shows far greater resistance against mechanical forces than other thermosetting plastics.
A further advantage of eye glass frames made of Optyl are the high skin tolerability, as there are no softeners used, as well as the possibility to create a three-dimensional design with unique effects by means of “adhering in vacuum”. Optyl is a high-quality material for most exclusive glasses.
