Types of Lenses
Most diverse types of lenses are used for the manufacture of corrective eyeglasses and sun glasses, whereby the eye lenses differ in shape and material. A professional advice is needed, because not all spectacles rims are compatible with all types of lenses, and moreover, the diopters strength has to be drawn into consideration. With high correction values, e.g. aspheric lenses are recommended, because these lenses are thinner and light-weightier to wear.
In the same way, the lenses material will be taken into consideration by detailed determination of the lenses to be chosen. If a decent rimless spectacles frame is selected, your optician will choose plastic lenses for grinding reasons. Today, nobody is anymore forced, to put up with thick, heavy, unaesthetic glasses, because with nearly all diopters strengths it is nowadays possible to manufacture very thin lenses.
The choice of the type of glasses is also a criterion for the type of lens. The synthetic polycarbonate for example, is particularly good suitable for sports glasses or kids’ glasses, due to the fact that this material is extremely light, thin and moreover unbreakable. With varifocals one will rather choose a synthetic lens having a higher refraction index, and the one who want to combine corrective eyeglasses with sun glasses, will need photo chromic (self-tinting) lenses, which adapt themselves automatically to the different lighting conditions.
The complex theme of types of lenses also comprises different finishing as e.g. special tinted glasses or coatings. What kind of eye lens one ever may choose, only a type of lens which is accurately adjusted to the personal needs, will guarantee an optimal vision and wearing comfort.
