Cylinder
In case of a cylindrical cornea/astigmatism/rod-clear-ness, the cylinder – which is an abbreviation for cylinder strength – describes the difference between the two cornea directions. In the
glasses card abbreviated with “cyl” or “zyl”, this value stands for the extent of divergence of the astigmatism compared to the normal case.
The extent of the curvature of the cornea is identified by measuring this difference. In case of astigmatism the value of the axis is the supplementary needed parameter.
