Age related visual defects
People suffer from age related visual defects, also called presbyopia, with increasing age, when the ability of the eye lens to adjust itself to near objects, gets worse. In most cases presbyopia starts in the age of ca. 40 – 45 years and is a result of the loss of elasticity of the eye lens.
This is followed by a reduction of the accommodation of the eye, which results in a worsened vision and ends in a farsightedness. At the beginning it may be sufficient to hold the book or the news paper in a somewhat greater distance from the eyes, in order to better being able to read the lines, but later on, it will be necessary to have an optical aid, as e.g. reading glasses. Today, also contact lenses will compensate presbyopia.
