Accommodation
Accommodation describes the ability of the eye to adjust its focus by means of ciliary muscles and zonular fibers. With accommodation the eye lens adjusts its refractive power to different distances of objects. It is differentiated between near and far distance accommodation.
In case of the far distance accommodation, objects which are far away, are depicted sharply, whereby the ciliary muscle is relaxed and the zonular fibers are tensed. The eye lens becomes flat and elongated and the ciliary muscle is decimated. Contrary hereto with near distance accommodation the ciliary muscle is tensed and the zonular fibers are relaxed. The lens is small and curved, the ciliary muscle is enlarged. Nearby objects are now sharply focused.
