Bausch &Lomb ist eines der ältesten aktiven Unternehmen der USA. 1853 legte der deutsche Einwanderer Johann Jacob Bausch mit einem Optikfachgeschäft den Grundstein für den Weltkonzern Bausch & Lomb. Bereits zur Jahrhundertwende arbeitet das im Staat New York ansässige Unternehmen mit über 1000 Mitarbeitern.
1920/30 gelangt Bausch & Lomb mit der Pilotenbrille Aviator, vertrieben unter dem Markennamen Ray Ban, ein Kassenschlager und Klassiker, deren Beliebtheit bis heute ungebrochen ist. Die Ray Ban Aviator sowie die Ray Ban Wayfarer, beide aus dem Hause Bausch& Lomb, zählen bis heute zu den weltweit bekanntesten Sonnenbrillenmodellen. Auch in der Hochtechnologie machte sich das amerikanische Unternehmen einen Namen. In den 50er Jahren erhielt Bausch& Lomb einen Oscar für die in Ihrem Zentrum entwickelte Cinema Scope Linse. Mit dieser Linse für Kameras wurden die ersten Bilder vom Mond übertragen. 1971 führte Bausch& Lomb die weltweit erste weiche Kontaktlinse ein und revolutionierte damit den Markt.

During the first years he developed tailor-made spectacles frames of hard rubber and thus replaced the frames which were up to that time all imported. Johann Jacob Bausch is also engaged in the development of optical precision instruments. Some years later, Henry Lomb joined the company as partner and the company Bausch & Lomb was founded. In the coming years they produced and patented microscopes, then binoculars and telescopes. Already at the turn of the century the company, situated in New York, employs over 1.000 workers. In the 1920s and 1930s Bausch & Lomb succeeded with a big seller and a real classic, the pilot glasses Aviator, sold under the brand name Ray Ban, the popularity of which is still unbroken. The Ray Ban Aviator as well as the Ray Ban Wayfarer, both made by Bausch & Lomb, are still today the worldwide most popular sun glasses models.
